Mega Waves

Mega Waves is a free rugby league skills program for students with disabilities, emphasising learning the basics of footy in a fun and supportive environment. Schools book in on a termly basis for a program that includes four one-hour rugby league skills sessions over eight weeks for a group of 15 participants. Schools are encouraged to include five mainstream participants who play rugby league to assist and facilitate cohesion, promoting inclusivity and program success.

Participants will learn the basics of rugby league, including passing, catching, and kicking, while practicing their fine and gross motor skills. They will also have opportunities to work collaboratively as a team, try new things, and practice their interpersonal skills. Mega Waves is available for both primary and high schools, with flexibility to tailor the program to your school's needs.

Please email [email protected] to register your school’s interest or arrange a meeting.

Score Sharks

The Cronulla Sharks have partnered with The Disability Trust to launch Score Sharks, a new community program in 2024. Score Sharks is a Sport and Recreation Program under the NDIS scheme, providing people aged 16 and over with disabilities the opportunity to play as a Shark in a modified version of rugby league. The program runs on a termly basis with weekly training sessions where members can work on their football and social skills.

Training takes place on Wednesday afternoons from 4:15pm to 5:30pm at Sutherland Oval, often featuring visits from NRL and NRLW players and special events.

For more information on the Score Sharks program, please email [email protected] or register your interest through this link.

Game Changer Program

The Cronulla Sharks have partnered with the Trainer Group Foundation to offer a range of programs for individuals with disabilities or accessibility requirements. The Trainer Group Foundation, a registered not-for-profit, is dedicated to providing support through game-changing education programs. These programs are designed for participants to share experiences, make new friends, and build confidence to be more active in the community.

These programs are offered at no cost, and support workers, family members, or friends are welcome to join in the fun. The Sharks Have Heart team has run both school holiday programs and a 5-week program for adults. Keep an eye out for details about the next available program.

NRL Wheelchair

The Sharks Have Heart team collaborates with NRL Wheelchair to promote Wheelchair Rugby League. They run an annual school holiday clinic where participants can try the game in a fun and inclusive manner. Wheelchair Rugby League is an inclusive sport welcoming participants with and without disabilities. This variation of traditional Rugby League allows athletes of all abilities to compete alongside each other.

Wheelchair Rugby League’s inclusiveness has made it immensely popular, offering a unique level playing field that few other sports can provide. Participants with and without disabilities can play on the same team with their siblings, friends, family, and colleagues. The Cronulla Sharks have a team that competes in the NSW state-based competition.

If you are interested in playing, please reach out to [email protected] or [email protected].
