Sharks star Annessa Biddle has taken out one of New Zealand Rugby League's top honours, being crowned the 2024 Women's Player of the Year after dominating at club and international level.

Biddle performed strongly for New Zealand in the end-of-year Pacific Championships, starting in the second row in the final against Australia.

While the Kiwi Ferns fell short of the title, Biddle's efforts earned her a shortlist nomination for the International Rugby League's prestigious Golden Boot award.

It came on the back of the barnstorming centre's outstanding club form, with Biddle kicking on after being named the 2023 Dally M Rookie of the Year to help inspire Cronulla to a maiden grand final appearance against the Roosters.

Biddle averaged 164 metres and scored four tries in 11 games for the Sharks last year.

Kiwi Ferns head coach Ricky Henry said: "Her commitment to her trade and dedication, belief and discipline have made her an absolute weapon and star of the women’s game.

"Her pride in wearing the Black and White jersey undoubtedly resonates with fans and teammates alike and (she) is a worthy winner of the 2024 Women’s Player of the Year award."
