Vale - Brian Quinn

The Sharks offer their sincere condolences to the family and friends of Brian Quinn following his recent passing.

A Sharks Life Member, former long-term Director, having joined the Board in 1996, Marketing Manager and a tireless worker at a junior league level, Brian was known by many as a man who ‘would get things done’, having played a major role in bringing nighttime rugby league to Sharks Stadium in the 1990’s.

Born in Moree on February 10, 1934, and married to Joan in 1956, Brian would move to Como in 1962, raising five children, three boys and two girls.

In 1968 he became involved with the St Josephs Junior Rugby League Club, then with St Patrick’s in 1975. He would be awarded Life Membership at both clubs.

“As he had ongoing contact with both clubs he was always involved, more so at St Pats up until only a few years ago,” son Chris explained.

While all five children would be heavily involved in sport, Chris Quinn (Shark #242) a fullback, centre or five eighth, would go on to play 72 top grade for the Sharks and 152 first grade matches in all for the Sharks, Dragons, Adelaide Rams and Parramatta Eels.

Brian was also a Life Member of the Sutherland Shire Junior Cricket Association, as well as the St Pat’s Junior Cricket Club and was a keen golfer and member at the Kareela Golf Club.

“Dad led a full life,” son Tony said. “He was a Life Member for five different organisations. You don’t get these by sitting on your hands.”

Brian Quinn, 90 years of age at his passing, is survived by children Tony, Martin, Chris, Megan and Angela and his 13 grandchildren.

A funeral service to celebrate Brian’s life will be held at St Patrick’s Catholic Church at Sutherland at 10.30am on Friday, December 13.
