The Sharks Stadium playing surface will be in peak condition for 2025 after undergoing extensive renovation works over the off-season.

Having withstood the demands of constant foot traffic from NRL, NRLW, junior representative and junior league matches and training sessions throughout 2024, the hallowed turf has been given a new lease of life by the 'Green by Nature' team.

The process included the chemical removal of rye grass, which was oversown into the couch grass surface at the beginning of the NRL season. While ideal its for winter coverage, rye grass can become overly dense and leave a heavy layer of organic matter that hinders the field's health and drainage abilities if managed incorrectly.

The removal of the rye created a cleaner, more sustainable base while preventing the growth of unwanted grass types that could interfere with the couch turf.

The playing surface was then shaved down using cutting-edge machinery over the course of three days, eliminating excess matter in order to improve the field's playability, performance, appearance, regrowth, drainage and general health.

As a result, the regenerated grass will be more resilient and cost-effective over the long-term, with impressive results noticeable in a matter of weeks.
