Clean sweep at home for junior Sharks

All went to script for the young Sharks on Saturday with the four teams saluting in style against the Rabbitohs at PointsBet Stadium.

The club's perfect round five began when the determined Lisa Fiaola girls sealed their well-deserved first win of the season with a convincing 26-6 scoreline.

"Great game. It came together," under-17s coach Robbie Taylor said. "I'm really happy, really excited for the girls to get the win, it's been a long time coming."

Just as dominant were the Tarsha Gale women, scoring seven tries in a 36-12 result to climb to fifth place on the ladder heading into this weekend's bye.

"First half we came out really fast and put ourselves on top nice and early and I think from there kept control for most of the half," 19s coach Isaac Michael said.

"Second half we missed the beat a little bit and maybe came out expecting it to go the same way, but it was a lesson that footy is a tough sport and you've got to turn up and keep working every play. It requires 100 per cent of your attention."

While the Harold Matthews team had to work hard, facing a stiff breeze in the first half and not helping themselves with mistakes, class prevailed as they made it three Sharks victories on the day by pulling away late for a 28-14 win.

"It was a good performance in the end," 17s men's coach Brad Kelly said, with his team now sitting snugly in fourth place with a bye still in hand.

"I challenged them at half time with improving their effort and intent from the first half, because I thought it wasn't really there in terms of what's expected of them.

"They definitely improved. It wasn't a perfect second half but I was confident if we were able to make improvements on the things we let ourselves down with in the first half we would be able to hold them out and get some points on the board."

The biggest statement came last, with Cronulla's SG Ball side producing a sublime attacking display headlined by a Michael Gabrael hat-trick to down Souths 52-14.

It was a terrific outcome for some of the players' families - including that of Manako Piutau and Sione Latu - who came from New Zealand to watch.

"Pleased with the effort and pleased with the win. We were good for longer periods and definitely happy with the win," 19s men's coach Dave Howlett said.

"It was awesome, really good timing for the boys from Queensland and New Zealand for their families to be here and I thought all those boys played really strongly. I was happy for those boys and for their families to be a part of it."

The Lisa Fiaola and Tarsha Gale teams will enjoy a bye in round six while the Harold Matthews and SG Ball Sharks face the Bulldogs at Terry Lamb Complex.
