In a two-day blitz this week, the Sharks NRL squad visited nearly 3000 students at 27 primary schools across the Sutherland Shire to encourage healthy choices and being "Simply Your Best".
The players and the Sharks Have Heart team attended schools from Cronulla to Waterfall on Wednesday and Thursday, collaborating with the NRL and a fleet of Game Development Officers to promote health and wellbeing practices.
Helping to present the "Simply Your Best" program, the squad shared their experiences and emphasised the importance of a healthy diet, physical activity, getting enough sleep and taking time out in order to perform at your peak.
Sharks Head of Community and Government Relations Vinh Tran lauded the influence of stars such as Ronaldo Mulitalo, Toby Rudolf and Blayke Brailey personally delivering positive messages to kids in the community.
"The players are amazing role models and for them to share how they can be their best has such a strong influence and long-lasting and meaningful impact," Tran said.
The visits also provided opportunities for players with local connections to visit schools where they grew up and still have close ties.
Brailey detailed his journey from junior league to first grade with students from his former primary school – Holy Family Menai – where he was captain.
Sharks Have Heart have a range of school programs centred around health and wellbeing themes – including the flagship One Heart program – as well as initiatives tailored for Indigenous students and those with a disability.
