Zambrero were firmly ‘behind’ the Sharks once again in 2023, their distinctive branding prominent on the NRL playing strip as back of jersey sponsor. The Sharks are now urging members and fans to support those who support them as the international Feel Good Mex food franchise continues its efforts to end world hunger with their Plate 4 Plate Initiative.
The initiative is driven by their founder Dr. Sam Prince, one of Australia’s most successful entrepreneurs and philanthropists. Prince started Zambrero in 2005 as a 21-year-old medical student in Canberra with a vision to make a difference towards food and famine for every bowl, burrito or retail item sold.
Zambrero now operates over 260 restaurants globally across Australia, New Zealand, the UK, USA and Ireland. Zambrero's Plate 4 Plate Initiative hit a major milestone this year having donated in excess of 71 million meals. They also host an annual Plate 4 Plate Day where they call on the entire Zam Fam, which includes the Sharks, fans and partners, to volunteer to help pack 430,000 meals across the country in one day!
The annual Plate 4 Plate Day returns, this year to take place on Friday, 13th October (to align around World Food Day) with Zambrero, looking to enlist the assistance of the rugby league community.
Volunteers will come together at locations across every state, in Sydney, Melbourne, Perth, Adelaide and on the Gold Coast, to help pack meals to be distributed by hunger relief partners Rise Against Hunger to those countries and regions in need. This year meals are set to be distributed to the Philippines, South Africa and disaster relief locations.
As was the case in 2022, Sharks staff will again lend a helping hand in attending the Sydney Plate 4 Plate Day meal packing site and assist to pack the meals.
In addition to the Plate 4 Plate Day meal packing events, Zambrero will also be offering double donations in-restaurants and via delivery on the day. So, for every burrito, bowl, Kids Zam Box and retail product purchased on 13th October Zambrero will then donate not just one but TWO meals to those in need!
