The Jersey Flegg Sharks conceded three tries inside the opening 20 minutes and weren’t able to recover in going down by 22-12 in their round 17 match against the Eels.
In a game played at PointsBet Stadium, the Sharks trailed 16-0, batted back to trail 16-6 at the break following a Kobie Wilson try, however the visitors would go on with the job, the loss seeing the Cronulla side slip one place to be fourth on the competition table.
Coach Andrew Dallalana was understandably disappointed with the result while looking forward to getting back on track when his team tackles the Dragons on Thursday night.
“We came with a game plan that we probably didn’t stick to today,” Dallalana said. “We missed the mark from the start of the game.
“(But) it’s not a crisis, it was a few small things, a few effort areas that we lacked today, which cost us in the end.
“We need to go back and look at where we went wrong, understand where we went wrong and just move forward next week and get those effort areas back to where they need to be. And from there we’ll be in every game,” he added.
After leading by 10 points at the break, the Eels would extend their advantage with a converted try just seven minutes after half time, with the Sharks unable gain any ascendency, a try to fullback Chaz Jarvis in the closing moments of the match helping to narrow the final margin.
The Flegg Sharks now have a short turnaround to their next game which will be on Thursday night as the curtain-raiser to the Sharks v Dragons NRL match. Kickoff to the Flegg match is at 5.35pm at PointsBet Stadium.
