Taco Team List Tuesday - Sharks v Knights

Newcomer Daniel Atkinson will slot in at fullback, Wade Graham partners former Panther Niwhai Puru in the halves, while a number of emerging stars will also get their chance to impress at the Sharks first trial match of the 2023 season on Friday night.

The Sharks have named 24 players for the game against Newcastle in Gosford which kicks off at the Central Coast Stadium at 5.55pm.

The trial is the first match of a double header, with Manly and Souths to follow the Sharks and Knights game at 8pm.

A number of Sharks stars have been rested, however the likes of Graham, Toby Rudolf, Braden Hamlin-Uele, Jack Williams and Teig Wilton will be amongst those looking to dust off the cobwebs from pre-season and get a valuable trial hit out under their belts before the season proper gets underway.

While interest surrounds the debut of Atkinson at the back, another of the new boys in front rower Max Bradbury also gets the opportunity to play his first game in Sharks colours, ironically coming up against his former club in the Knights.

Caleb Hamlin-Uele, brother of Braden and a front rower with plenty of promise, has been named in the extended Sharks squad, so too young hooker Sam Healey, son of Sharks legend Mitch, who is set to back up Jayden Berrell at dummy half and play at role at some point in the trial match.

NSW Cup player of the year Kayal Iro partners Mawene Hiroti in the centres, with youngsters Tom Rodwell and Sam Stonestreet to be given their first taste of the top grade on the wing for the Sharks.

The Sharks will be missing the likes of Nicho Hynes, Briton Nikora, Royce Hunt and Braden Trindall, with the four at the NRL All Stars match in Rotorua, New Zealand, along with a number of NRL regulars who have been rested and are likely to take part in their team’s second and final trial match which is against the Bulldogs at Belmore on February 19.

The 2023 NRL season gets underway for the Sharks with a blockbuster clash against Souths at PointsBet Stadium on March 4.
