Sharks stars Will Kennedy and Braydon Trindall attended the Kurranulla Aboriginal Corporation’s Youth Group Christmas party on Thursday, interacting with the youngsters in attendance while helping to hand out presents kindly donated by Engadine Lions Club.
A drop-in centre for local Aboriginal and Torres strait Islander community living in the Sutherland Shire and St George areas, Kurranulla Aboriginal Corporation offers a range of services, to home support programs, assistance for those at risk of homelessness and mental health issues, drug and alcohol support, as well as social support groups for women, men and youth.
In addition, the Kurranulla Kids Cultural and Aboriginal Youth Mentoring programs offer Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and young people opportunities to gain cultural knowledge and develop a strong connection to their identity, community and culture.
“For Aboriginal people, connection to community is important. Having the opportunity to get down to Kurranulla and support the kids is a good way to give back and connect with the Aboriginal community here in the Shire,” Kennedy stated.
Reflecting on the evening, Kurranulla Manager Wendy French expressed her appreciation as to the attendance of the two indigenous Sharks, who joined in on the activities and games with the youngsters.
“We had a great turn out and the time, energy and enthusiasm from Will and Braydon with all our Koori kids was amazing to see.” Ms French said.
‘’All the kids had a deadly time. Thank you from the bottom of our heart for all the support Sharks Have Heart provided.”
