Braden Hamlin-Uele has had his 2022 World Cup sadly cut short, with the Sharks prop returning home after injuring his calf in Samoa’s opening game.
Hamlin-Uele was a member of the Samoan team which was humbled by the host nation, the English winning 60-6, however the Sharks forward had limited input due to suffering a calf injury early in the match.
Starting the game at lock, Hamlin-Uele managed just 12 minutes to open the game, then played no further part after coming from the field with the calf injury.
Due to the length of the World Cup tournament and the extent of the injury, Hamlin-Uele has returned home, where he will rehab and recover ahead of the start of the 2023 Sharks pre-season.
The injury isn’t expected to impact his NRL pre-season, nor his start to the 2023 season.
The first group of Sharks players are due to being pre-season preparations on November 4, with a number of senior players returning later in the month. Those involved in the World Cup will not report to pre-season until after Christmas.
With the injury to Hamlin-Uele, his Sharks teammate Royce Hunt will come into calculations for a call-up to a Samoan team which will be looking to rebound after their disappointing round one result.
Samoa play Greece at 3am next Monday morning (AEST) in their second game of the World Cup, with two matches , Tonga v PNG and the Cook Island against Wales, remaining to complete round one.
