For his heartfelt and thoughtful words in a post-match interview following the Sharks home game against the Tigers, Nicho Hynes has been recognised with the NRL’s Provan-Summons Medal, Spirit of the Game Award.
An award recognising heartening on-field acts of sportsmanship, courage and respect, Hynes’s respectful offering concerning the tragic passing of Paul Green and the need for more conversation around mental health and issues relating to it, saw him rewarded with the prestigious medal bearing the name of the two former greats.
The honour had previously been awarded to the fan-voted player of the year, however the Provan-Summon Medal is now reflective of a player who has displayed the above qualities in exemplifying the true spirit of the game.
Hynes took out the award from other candidates including Junior Paulo of the Eels, Rabbitoh Latrell Mitchell and Kelma Tualiagi from the Wests Tigers.
Hynes was presented with his award at the 2022 Dally M Medal ceremony, held at Randwick Racecourse earlier tonight.
