The Sharks will again throw their support behind former player Nathan Stapleton who survived a serious spinal injury earlier this year while playing Rugby for the country town of Boorowa.
Stapleton, who played 61 games in the NRL for the Sharks from 2009 to 2012, fractured the c3 and c4 vertebrae in his neck, in the process damaging his spinal cord, with his condition requiring extensive and long-term care.
It is a devastating situation for Stapleton, his wife Kate and young family which includes two young boys, Harry, almost two, and Angus John, born just a matter of weeks ago.
The couple are staying strong with the support of their families, friends and the broader community.
There are ongoing costs for the family including medical bills, rent on a property which allows his wife to be nearby the Prince of Wales and mortgage payments on their house in the country.
As a part of the fundraising the Sharks are auctioning the match worn and personally signed jerseys from the local derby clash against the Dragons on Saturday night.
A striking design, the Sharks 2022 Heritage jersey is a collector’s item in itself, with retail stocks selling out within hours of becoming available, making this crop of match-worn and signed jerseys unique pieces of club memorabilia.
The debutant jersey to be worn by local junior Kade Dykes, the seven played in by Nicho Hynes, and number eight to worn by fan favourite Toby Rudolf, along with the jerseys worn by the entire playing squad, are up for auction, with all monies raised being placed in a trust which will support Stapleton’s future.
