Putting a damper on the recent Sharks run of success comes the news that winger Sione Katoa has undergone surgery earlier today to repair a pectoral injury.
Katoa suffered the injury after scoring a spectacular try in the Sharks win over the Cowboys, his four-pointer, where he ran 50-metres after breaking the North Queensland line following a scrum, sealed the result for the Cronulla side.
The try was his 14th in 16 games this season and the 46th of his NRL career.
With around a 12-week recovery period expected, Katoa will be unavailable for the remainder of the 2022 NRL season.
The Katoa injury comes as a blow ahead of the Sharks clash with the ladder-leading Panthers on Saturday, with his replacement to be named when the Cronulla side is revealed later today.
Other than Jack Williams, who recently underwent a shoulder reconstruction and will play no further part in the 2022 season, the Sharks are currently reporting no other serious injury concerns as they head into the back end of the season.
