The Jersey Flegg Sharks have let a second half lead slip in playing out a 22-all draw with the Dragons.
In a match switched from Wollongong to Kirkham Oval in Camden due to the condition of Collegians Field in Figtree, the Sharks built up a 12-point lead at 22-10 in front with 20 minutes of the match remaining, only for the Dragons to finish the stronger as the two teams shared the points.
It was a disappointing finish for the under-21 Sharks who were also in a winning position in their previous encounter in a loss to the Eels.
After the Dragons posted first points, a Kade Dykes try, then Ryan Rivett conversion edged the Sharks in front, before a Sam Stonestreet four-pointer helped push the Cronulla lead out to six points.
In a see-sawing first half the Dragons levelled as the teams went to half time locked up at 10-all.
Dykes and Stonestreet would notch second half doubles, pushing the Sharks lead out to what should have been a match-winning 12 points, only for the late St George Illawarra revival, the last try coming with just five minutes left on the clock.
The draw means the Sharks have a win, a loss and a draw to show for their efforts over the first three weeks of the season, with their next match a game against the Knights as the curtain-raiser to the NRL clash between the same two teams on Friday night.
The Flegg Sharks sit in seventh place on the Flegg ladder, with the Knights fifth after two wins and a loss to kick off their 2022 campaign.
