In continuing to build a competitive squad for the 2022 season and beyond, the Sharks can announce that young playmaker Braydon Trindall has re-signed for the next two years.
A member of the Sharks premiership winning Jersey Flegg team from 2018, Trindall progressed to where he was an integral part of the dual premiership success at the Newtown Jets in 2019 and has now forced his way into Cronulla’s 17-man squad during the current season.
Predominantly a half back or five eighth, Trindall has been taking on a utility role for the Sharks in recent weeks, with coach Josh Hannay pleased with his development and with what the future might hold for the talented 21-year-old.
“It’s great news that Braydon has decided to stay with the club. I think we’re only just starting to scratch the surface with him as a player and what he can bring to the team,” Hannay said.
“He’s a wonderfully gifted player with great instincts for the game and like many of the good young players in the squad, is seeing reward for hard work.
“I’ve seen Braydon mature a lot over the course of the year, going back to the start of pre-season and without doubt, the best is yet to come for him,” Hannay added.
Born in Wee Waa in north-western NSW, Trindall played his junior rugby league for the Caboolture Snakes on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast, before having two seasons in the Melbourne Storm system, playing in their NYC Holden Cup team.
Recruited to the Sharks in 2018, Trindall made an immediate impression, and having now been in the Sutherland Shire and a part of the Cronulla club for four years, is thrilled to have secured his future for at least the next two years.
“I’m very happy to have two more years here, I love the club and couldn’t see myself anywhere else at the moment,” Trindall said.
While focused on the 2021 season and continuing the teams’ recent run of good form, Trindall has had discussions with Craig Fitzgibbon and was looking forward to working alongside the incoming Sharks coach.
“I’m playing out of position off the bench, but I’m happy to be in the team. I’d love to go back into the halves but I'm just doing whatever is best for the team at the moment,” he said.
“I’ve had a few good conversations with Fitzy and he’s been up front about moving forward next year.”
Trindall, who has now played 12 NRL games, was due to today travel to Townsville for the Sharks round 15 clash with the Cowboys as a member of their 17-man squad.
That match is scheduled for a 6pm kick off at Queensland Country Bank Stadium on Friday night.
