A member of the Sharks side in 1972, who would then to go on to become a premiership-winning forward with the Roosters in 1974-75, Barry ‘Bunny’ Reilly, Shark #76, passed away last week.
Nicknamed the ‘Axe’ for his physical tackling style, while known as ‘Bunny’ to his friends, Reilly would play just that one season at Cronulla, playing seven first grade games, while later forging a successful career at the Roosters,
He played 198 matches between 1967 and 1979 for the Eastern Suburbs club.
Following his retirement from playing, Reilly later had a stint as caretaker coach at the Roosters in 1990 and he was named in the Roosters Team of the Century.
Reilly’s funeral is this Friday, May 14, however it is a closed service due to the COVID restrictions.
For those wishing to observe the 11am service, a live link stream will be available by clicking here.
The Sharks offer their condolences to his family and friends.
