Late Mail - Sharks v Panthers

The Sharks will be without Shaun Johnson for tonight’s clash with the table-topping Panthers due to the groin injury which saw him replaced late in his team's win over Titans.

His place in the Sharks side will be taken by Braydon Trindall, the young half back set to play his second NRL game after debuting in his teams rind 12 match against the Broncos.

The 20-year-old Trindall was a member of the Sharks premiership-winning Jersey Flegg team of 2018, while also playing a leading role in the dual championship success of the Newtown Jets last season.

Trindall will partner Matt Moylan in the Sharks halves.

While the Johnson injury wasn't deemed serious, wife Kayla Cullen gave birth to the couple's first child last night, meaning the Sharks star missed the majority of the training week and wasn't able to convince medical staff he had fully overcome his groin issue.

The Trindall for Johnson replacement will be the Sharks only change to the 17-man squad as previously announced for the game which kicks off at 6.00pm at Panthers Stadium tonight.

Josh Dugan, after coming from the field late in the Sharks win over the Titans has been given a clean bill of health and will take his place at centre for a game where the Cronulla side will be aiming to continue their push for a spot in the top eight.

In an alteration to the Sharks starting side, Toby Rudolf moves to prop, Braden Hamlin Uele goes back to the interchange bench, with Scott Sorensen coming into the starting team.

Johnson and Teig Wilton are the players omitted from the Sharks 19-man squad as announced last night.
