Morris: "Shift to the Sharks the best thing I've done"

Veteran centre Josh Morris says his shift from Belmore to the Sharks has been one of the best things he's done in his career and, contrary to rumours linking him with a return to the Dragons, he'll consider extending beyond his current 2020 deal.

Speaking on the eve of his first finals campaign since 2016, the former Dragon and Bulldog was very relaxed about his future.

"I'm not on as much coin as I used to be!" he laughed.

"There's not much point moving me, I wouldn't free up too much space [in the cap]. It is what it is, it's all part of the game but being older helps you put it on the back burner and I haven't let it affect me at all."

Once the rumours surfaced, Morris said he immediately rang his manager David Riolo and was assured the club was happy with him and hadn't looked into moving him on.

"They're just rumours. I've had all my mates texting me 'am I going here, am I going there' but I haven't heard anything from the club or from my manager," he added.

"I'm happy here, I feel like I'm playing some of my best footy and I'm looking forward to playing finals - that's what I came here to do."

The 33-year-old said if he feels as good this time next as he does now he may even extend his stay at the club.

"You never say never. If I'm playing this well this time next year I'd certainly consider it. If I'm playing well and my body still feels good I'd be crazy not to think about playing on," he said.

"[Coming here] is probably the best thing I've done; I feel refreshed, re-energised and feel like I'm playing some of my best footy as well.

"I've lived in the area the last 10 years and have a young family now so it fit in perfectly. I get to spend a bit more time at home with the family as well which has been good."

Morris hasn't lost his trademark speed either, easily chasing down a breakaway Jarrod Croker in an eventual one-point loss to the Raiders a fortnight ago.

"I've been telling the young fellas 'where were they' and getting into them!" Morris laughed.

"I guess it's about setting that example, if I can do it being the oldest back in the side then the young fellas can follow."

Of this Saturday's elimination final against Manly at Lottoland, Morris rubbished suggestions of a hoodoo, despite the Sharks failing to win a game there since 2008.

"We spoke about it briefly this morning, there's probably most of the squad that hasn't played there in a Sharks jersey so we're not worried about it at all," Morris said.

"From our perspective we're 0-0 there so it's about getting the win and getting the job done."

Morris expects a big effort from Manly despite the absence of stars Tom Trbojevic, Martin Taupau, Curtis Sironen and Joel Thompson.
