One continues to impress after a handful of opportunities in the top grade, while his twin brother has forced his way into the Sharks Jersey Flegg team, with the Mulitalo’s set to be on the training paddock and maybe the NRL team together in the years to come after both signed new contracts yesterday with the Cronulla club.
Ronaldo Mulitalo has been a revelation in his four NRL games to date, with the big outside back shunning a handful of rival offers to sign a two-year contract extension with the Sharks.
Mulitalo, who scored an impressive try in the big win over the Rabbitohs last weekend, has committed to the Cronulla club for the 2020-2021 seasons.
Not as well known at this stage by Sharks fans is twin brother Lorenzo, who in recent weeks has done everything asked of him in gaining selection in Cronulla under-20’s Jersey Flegg team.
Like his brother in the main game, Lorenzo managed a try for the Flegg Sharks last Saturday night, with his improvement and potential also earning him a new deal, with Lorenzo signing a training contract for 2020 pre-season.
Depending on his progress, the ‘younger’ twin, with Ronaldo explaining he is “about 20 minutes older” than Lorenzo, could also be a part of the Sharks squad into the future.
“I’m excited, it’s a good time to be around the club,” Ronaldo said after putting pen to paper on his contract extension. “I’m getting comfortable in my role, I try to bring energy to the team and I felt this is where I needed to be.”
As for the possibility of playing alongside his brother, Ronaldo added; “We get to live out our dreams, I think he’s inspired me as much as I inspire him.”
While Lorenzo, after coming to the Sharks this year in following his brother to Cronulla, was looking forward to taking the opportunity he had been presented.
“It’s a good feeling right now. It will be good to be around my brother and to rip in with the boys,” he said. “It’s good seeing him (Ronaldo) set the path, watching him play in the big leagues and he gives me the motivation to be up there as well.”
The Mulitalo brothers hail from Ipswich in Queensland, with Ronaldo attending a Sharks development camp, before later being brought down to Sydney to play the club’s SG Ball team.
Ronaldo represented Queensland Origin under 20's this year, playing fullback, while he previously played as a centre for the Maroons in their Under 18's Origin team in displaying his versatility and ability to cover a number of different backline positions.
The years that have followed his arrival in the Shire included a couple of injury issues, before Ronaldo found form and fitness in forcing his way into the Sharks NRL squad earlier this year, with his debut coming in Brisbane when he was thrust onto the big stage due to an injury to Josh Dugan in the warm up.
From there he has made every post a winner, his strong running and athletic finishing a feature of his four NRL games to date.
As for brother Lorenzo, after a slow start to 2019 as he familiarised himself with his new surroundings, he has now become a regular in a Sharks Jersey Flegg side which sits on top of the competition table with four rounds of the regular season remaining.
The boys are both 19 years of age, turning 20 in November.
