Jets pile on the points

It may have been a little cool at the ground, but the home side kept the crowd warm with a dominant 10 tries to three demolition.

The visitors made a great start with James Bell opening the scoring in just the third minute. The try was converted from in front for an early 6-0 lead to the Warriors.

The Jets opened their account in the 10th minute when Briton Nikora found space down the right edge and passed inside to Jack Williams to score out wide. Kyle Flanagan made no mistake with the conversion attempt to tie it up at 6-all.

A brilliant bust by Jets centre Reubenn Rennie split the Warriors open in the 15th minute and Flanagan showed great initiative to back up and score beside the posts. He converted his own try to make it 12-6.

The Jets made it three tries for the half when an ungainly grubber was kicked ahead for fullback William Kennedy to scoop up and score to the delight of the home crowd. Flanagan's effort was waved away and the Jets had raced out to a commanding 16-6 lead after just 20 minutes.

Sione Katoa continued the free-scoring half with a try in the 22nd minute after the Jets had received a full set only 20 metres out; they wasted little time in spreading the ball wide for Katoa to capitalise. Flanagan missed from out wide and the Jets led 20-6 mid-way through the half.

Back-to-back penalties put the Warriors right on the attack for the first time since they opened the scoring way back in the third minute of the match and they came away with points again thanks to winger Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad who dived over in the corner in the 27th minute.

The conversion fell short and the Jets held onto a 20-10 lead approaching the half-hour mark.

The try energised the Warriors and from the ensuing set they marched downfield and a neat cross-field kick by halfback Mason Lino forced a repeat set.

The Jets held firm and received a much-needed penalty as they worked their way out from their own end.

A big bust through the middle had the crowd on their feet but the play broke down and the Warriors took possession with just over 5 minutes left of an absorbing half.

Desperate goal-line defence denied the Warriors and a double movement infringement saw the home side march downfield as the half wound down.

Ill discipline from the Warriors gave the home side a great attacking opportunity late in the half and Jets five eighth Jack Williams ducked and weaved his way through some flimsy defence to grab his second for the match. Flanagan made no mistake to give his side a comfortable 26-10 lead at the break.

Both sides took their time getting into the flow of the game to start the second half and it was the Jets who would score first in the 51st minute through five eighth Jack Williams, the try converted for a commanding 32-10 scoreline in favour of the home side.

A fortuitous play by Jets backrower Briton Nikora saw his grubber regathered and with a fresh set the Jets took advantage of a retreating defence to send Anthony Moraitis over, converted by Flanagan to make it 38-10 with 20 minutes to play.

The temperature was dropping but the Jets were heating up and they added another try to Jaimin Joliffe who crashed over from close range. The successful conversion made it 44-10 with 16 minutes left.

The Jets added try number nine in the 69th minute through Bessie Aufaga Toomaga who dived over in the left corner. Flanagan couldn't add the extras and the Jets held a 48-10 lead with 10 minutes remaining.

Despite leading by 38 points, the Jets continued to work hard in defence repelling Blake Ayshford and bundling him into touch in the 73rd minute.

The visitors grabbed a late consolation try through winger Nicoll-Klokstad in the 75th minute, converted by Harris-Tavita to make it 48-16.

The Jets brought up the half century in style with an 80-metre try to Katoa which brought the crowd to life and continued the winger's impressive match. Afuga Toomaga couldn't add the extras but the home side enjoyed a comfortable 52-16 victory.
