The NYC Sharks, sitting third on the competition table, have been consistent in 2017, with six wins and a draw to show for their efforts to date.

Similarly, the Dragons have been equally impressive, seven wins from nine games seeing them sit one point ahead of the Sharks and second on the ladder.

However, the Dragons have had one major hiccup so far this season, and it was in a 38-4 loss to the Sharks in a round three match played at Southern Cross Group Stadium, meaning the stakes might be just a little higher this time around as the Cronulla side looks to reassert their authority while their opponents hope to save some face with an improved performance.

All of which adds up to an intriguing match-up between two of the leading contenders in the NYC competition.

Both sides have had an opportunity to rest up and get ready for the local derby match due to last week’s representative round, although they did supply a handful of players to the Junior Kangaroos and Kiwi teams for last Friday’s Test.

Dragons hooker Reece Robson, the Junior Roos number nine last week will be player who needs to be watched, while Sharks back rower Briton Nikora returns to club football after being on the losing side of the ledger with the Kiwis.

Nikora scored a late try for his team in what was an otherwise disappointing performance.

Sharks Coach John Morris has named the same 17 that beat the Wests Tigers at their last start, in a squad now trimmed down to 20. He will make a final decision on his line up one hour prior to the 3.45pm kick off.

The match is to be played at UOW Jubilee Oval in Kogarah.
