The month of June was a busy month for the Sharks squad off the field, as the Club continued to engage with Members and fans within the wider community.
Michael Ennis continued with his long-term community engagement work through attending Channel Seven’s ‘7inspire’ Media and Leadership Program.
Alongside Channel 7 Sports Editor Jim Wilson, Ennis spoke to the Year 11 Group at Cronulla High about leadership qualities and the importance of Rugby League both on and off the field.
The full NRL squad took the time out to connect with the Cronulla-Sutherland area by participating in our Junior Rugby League Blitz. Two players were allocated to each Club with the Sharks visiting 13 JRL Clubs across a two-week period.
Prior to the game against the Sydney Roosters, the side named for Sunday’s match visited Harvey Norman Taren Point for a Sharks Membership drive. On the night, players were assigned to stations throughout the store where they signed autographs, posed for photos and ran skills and drill stations with fans.
Squad members Pat Politoni and Junior Roqica paid a visit to a special 103-year-old Sharks fan at Miranda Nursing Home. The boys even enjoyed a slice of cake with the birthday girl.
Injured Shark Nu Brown visited Samoa as part of the NRL’s initiative to grow the game in the Pacific Islands.
Brown was accompanied by NRL Development Officer John Wilson on their four-day visit, conducting coaching sessions and delivering healthy lifestyle messages to more than 2500 kids at schools and Rugby League Clubs.
The Cronulla Sharks took the NRL to the bush when they travelled to the Riverina area during a bye round.
Head Coach Shane Flanagan, Wade Graham, Sosaia Feki, Jeff Robson and Jayden Clarke visited seven schools and two Junior Rugby League Clubs including Robson’s junior club the Leeton Raiders and Clarke’s junior club the Lake Cargelligo Sharks.
NYC Squad members Billy Magoulias, Thomas Levi, Daniel Liddicoat attended the Sharks annual All-schools Primary Knock-out event at Barden Ridge where more than 35 teams participated across six fields.
Michael Ennis and Jacob Gagan paid a special visit to one of the Sharks valued Members, Liam Thompson, who is striving to overcome a rare illness. Thompson was surprised to meet the two Sharks players and enjoyed the time with them as they spent time with him on their morning off.
David Fifita and Nu Brown attended ‘Footy Fever’, an initiative funded by the Indigenous All-Stars, and spoke to participants in the Sharks /PCYC program about their childhood and how it impacted who they are today.
Mitch Brown and Sami Sauiluma attended Gymea Bay Public School and presented medals to the winners of the ET Shield at the school assembly.
