NSWRL Media Release
Monday, 27 October 2014
New South Wales Rugby League Chairman Dr George Peponis says the NSW VB Blues will not abandon skipper Paul Gallen despite agreeing that his comments on social media were highly offensive.
The victorious State of Origin captain has been fined $50,000 for a breach of the NRL’s code of conduct. If he successfully completes a leader’s accountability course an ARLC panel will then determine if he is eligible to be selected for the Australian Kangaroos in 2015.
“We do not condone Paul Gallen’s comments but at this stage consider it to be a matter for the NRL and his club Cronulla,” said Dr Peponis.
“He has already apologised and now the NRL has laid down a clear process for Paul to follow.
“Paul has been a loyal servant for his State and we will continue to support him throughout the NRL’s code of conduct process.”
Gallen has seven days to respond to the breach notice.
The NSWRL will make no further comment until the NRL considers his response.
